Gynecological Issues

What are Fibroids? Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus, which can occur as a result of hormonal imbalances, such as too much estrogen or inadequate progesterone.

Symptoms include the following:

  • Heavy, often painful periods
  • Bladder and rectal issues, such as obstructions or pain during excretion
  • Chronic pelvic or back pain
  • Pain during or after sexual intercourse

When fibroids develop as a result of excess estrogen, some of the following signs may also be present and require management:

  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Breast tenderness or excessive nipple sensitivity
  • PMS
  • Fibroids in the breast
  • Anxiety, panic attacks and depression
  • Insomnia

Some women suffering from fibroids may have an increased risk of breast or uterine cancer. Luckily, the hormonal imbalances that can lead to fibroids can be easily corrected before developing into something more critical.

There are fibroid therapy options available. Surgery is one way to get rid of fibroids, but we recommend trying other less invasive options before moving on to more aggressive therapies. Our approach begins with making sure there are no other conditions to blame for your symptoms.

Some of the methods and supplements Houston Wellness Clinic uses to help manage fibroids include:

  • Remove toxins via chelation
  • Dissolve fibrous tissues
  • Suggest dietary changes
  • Adjust vitamin D intake
  • Reduce stress levels (stress can deplete progesterone)
  • Bio-identical hormones
  • Chasteberry or maca to boost progesterone levels
  • Shepherd’s purse to decrease bleeding
  • Essential oils and/or castor oils to encourage blood flow to the pelvis
  • Other supplements as needed

Depending on the patient, chiropractic care, acupuncture, or a combination of the two may be incorporated into a regimen as well.
